Treating Diarrhea In Dogs

Your dog may have diarrhea occasionally. This can happen for a number of reasons. No matter what the reason, it can be frightening. Be diligent about taking care of your dog and use the following tips to get your dog feeling better as fast as possible.
Offer Water
Ensure that your dog has a lot of drinking water. This will help to prevent dehydration. Often, the last thing a dog may want to do is drink water, but you must keep trying. You can offer other liquids in addition to the water. You can try giving your dog beef or chicken broth, along with water.
Change Your Dog's Diet
In addition to broth, you can give your dog boiled chicken and white rice if they seem to be very hungry. If you prefer not to give rice, you can give your pet pumpkin and sweet potato. This will increase their fiber intake and help with the diarrhea. Give your dog this type of food until the diarrhea stops. If you notice that a day has passed and the diarrhea is still present, take your dog to a veterinarian hospital.
Diarrhea and Vomiting
Sometimes diarrhea is accompanied by vomiting. When this happens, you need to remove food for at least half a day. Avoid dehydration by offering your dog small amounts of water as the day progresses. In this case, chicken broth or beef broth is also an appropriate addition, along with water. If your dog does not vomit for another twelve hours, then you can start offering them boiled chicken and rice.
Watch your dog closely for at least two hours. If your dog does not vomit during this period, then you can give them another small meal of chicken and rice. If things go smoothly for the rest of the day, you can continue giving your dog a bland diet for at least three days.
Preventing Diarrhea
Try to prevent diarrhea in the future by avoiding sudden changes in your dog's diet. Avoid giving your dog objects that can be swallowed or table scraps. Be careful how you let your dog scavenger through the yard or bushes, especially if you live in the country. De-worming and vaccination can also help to prevent illnesses that can cause irritation of the intestines and result in diarrhea.
Helping your dog get past diarrhea is challenging and you may feel anxious and worried. Make use of the tips given here, but if you see no improvements after a day, or if there is improvement followed by regression, do not hesitate to take your dog to the vet.
